Working Down

As a kid I remember helping out with yard work. Dad would give me a penny, yes, and entire penny, for every dandelion I pulled up. But just the top wasn’t enough, I had to have the entire root for it to count toward my big pay off. Why did he require the entire root? If the root remains, the dandelion will grow back.

Philippians 2:13 says to “work out” your salvation. Odd verbiage for today. It really means more like work “down”, work down your pile of stuff, root out the pile of sin in your heart and life.

Cancer (and many diseases “dis-ease”) is multifaceted. Because we are multifaceted humans. Just as Jesus was multifaceted when He walked this earth. From childhood He grew physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. It’s not merely physically; these other components play a role. So another component to my healing will be rooting out the sin in my life through confession. If I can get down and dirty getting the physical toxins out of my body, I also need to get the spiritual and mental toxins out. Verse 14 of chapter 2 helps me get the list started right away. Praying I keep doing the work of digging deep enough to get out the entire root, and it's work. But I don't want these “weeds” to grow back.

“Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

‘Great is Thy faithfulness!’”
