Diagnosis

I was not able to consult with my doctor yesterday; I guess she was in surgery all day. Supposedly today she will call me. I did go to my online results page and read that it is “ductal carcinoma in situ” which is 80% of all breast cancers. So, it is cancer. But as my husband tries to tell me frequently, “I’m not a doctor.” So, I need to hear it for sure from her and listen to what options she suggests.

I had planned on going back to work this afternoon. I knew deep down what she was going to tell me, but it’s difficult to function…period…let alone effectively after a doctor so matter-of-factly tells you, “It is cancer.” And now I have to tell my husband, he's my soon to be - caretaker. How do I gently tell him it's not benign? Caretaking, most definitely the more difficult of the two positions.
